Introducing Microsoft SharePoint Online

Here at UF we have many tools to allow researchers and faculty to collaborate but nothing brings everyone together like SharePoint online.

This platform can be used to create powerful websites that are both secure and can be shared with colleagues across the world.

Microsoft says this about SharePoint:

“Organizations use SharePoint to create websites. You can use it as a secure place to store, organize, share, and access information from almost any device. All you need is a web browser, such as Internet Explorer, Chrome, or Firefox”

SharePoint calendars can be linked to your Outlook calendar, Document libraries can be linked to your OneDrive storage space. InfoPath can be used to create form templates that other team members can use to fill in information and save in a library you can also publish VISO diagrams as webpages and then host them in SharePoint online. Office 365 also integrates with SharePoint online which allows very simple creation and editing of Office documents.

One of the things that make SharePoint so powerful is the ability to use 7 permission types to restrict content thus protecting your team site but still sharing it with a wide audience.

SharePoint online also has video portals to allow the possibilities of Department or College YouTube like experience.

If you are unsure how to work with your SharePoint online site you can take the free to UF employees SharePoint Online Lynda.com training.
