Home Drive Consolidation, Dec. 23rd

Home drive paths will change for users connecting using Linux, Mac OS X 10.6, or Windows mapped to the volumes directly.

drivesOn Monday, December 23, 2013, CLAS IT will be consolidating the seven volumes that host individual user home directories (H: drives) into a single volume. This change will simplify the management structure of the volumes, and make remote access easier. It will also be transparent to Windows users in Active Directory, and OS-X users using DFS targets (10.7 and above).

Currently, user home directories are in different locations, for instance a username beginning with “A” or “B” resides on “ls-home0,” while a username beginning with “P,” “Q,” or “R” resides on “ls-home6.” Once this change is in place, they will all reside in the same location.

Users Affected By This Change

Linux users, Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard) users, and remote Windows users that are mapping to the individual volumes directly will need to re-map their drives after the change goes into place. This change does not apply to users in Statistics or Mathematics.

The CLAS IT documentation listing the individual home directories will be updated once the change has occurred. If you have any questions or comments about this, contact us via the service request form.
