Caution: The L2TP client should only be used in cases with Anyconnect will not function. There are several drawbacks to the L2TP client including limited redundancy, lack of support for campus only tunnels, lack of support for Duo append mode, and possible compatibility issues as your OS receives updates.
Setup on Windows 10
- Click on Windows Icon in the bottom lefthand side of the screen
- Type VPN, "Change virtual private networks (VPN)" should appear, then click on it
- Click Add a VPN Connection
- Fill out the form
- VPN Provider = Windows (Built in)
- Connection Name = Whatever you would like it to be called
- Server name or address = l2tp.vpn.ufl.edu (note that is an "elle")
- VPN type = L2TP/IPsec with pre-shared key
- Pre-shared key = [Go here to find it]
- Unclick "Remember my sign-in info
- Everything else should be left as a default
- Click "Save"
Operation on Windows 10
One a VPN is defined, you can launch it from the same "Change virtual private networks" screen as above, or you can go to the Network icon in the lower right hand side of the screen, click on it, click your new VPN profile and click connect.
Username: username@ufl.edu
Password: [Gatorlink Password]
If you are 2FA enrolled, you will get a Duo 2FA push to your default device.
Important Notes:
- Dept vpn switches should work, however we have had reports that some versions of windows dont like having a / in the username. The /campus switch will not be functional on its own or as part of a dept vpn switch on the l2tp client
- L2TP/IPsec client is not compatible with the Duo Append options. Only the default Duo 2FA push device may be used with the L2TP/IPsec client. Because of the lack of Duo Append support, One time passwords, and 2FA keys such as Yubikey will not work.
