Update: UF Network Services will be disabling the ‘ufw’ wireless network across campus on August 13th.
August 7, 2012: UF has been rolling out two new wireless networks, “uf” and “ufinfo” in preparation for this change. As part of the change, the old “ufw” wireless network will be shut down after August 13th.
CLAS IT recommends that any faculty member giving final exams through Sakai make a point of letting their students know that they should not use the “ufw” network during their exam period, but should instead transition to the new “uf” network.
Changes to campus wireless
The new ‘uf’ wireless network will encrypt all communication on the network and allow for easier authentication than the current ‘ufw’ network.
It will also require users to be running current anti-virus software and up-to-date versions of exploitable software like Java and Flash. Windows users must have Windows Updates enabled and set to automatically install. Systems running peer-to-peer software such as BitTorrent will not be allowed on the network.
How to configure your computer
For help configuring your computer to connect to the campus network, visit getonline.ufl.edu to download and install the automatic configuration tool.
To configure your settings without installing software, follow the manual configuration instructions for various devices and operating systems.
