Web Services

CLAS IT provides hosting for CLAS department and center web sites as well as for faculty and staff sites. CLAS IT maintains web servers and manages access to CLAS web sites. CLAS Media Services can assist you with content, design, and other website needs.

Hosting

WordPress Sites

Departments and staff in the college can request a WordPress site hosted by CLAS IT.

  • The official UF template is available by default.
  • Edit pages in any web browser. No software or connecting to drives required
  • Tools including event calendars, forms, and photo galleries.
  • GatorLink-authenticated pages

Web Space

Web space is available for advanced users who are department webmasters (W: drive) or for faculty and graduate students with legacy user sites (I: drive). These sites require editing software and connecting to web drives in order to update them.

  • Can use any HTML template.1
  • Support for Server-Side Includes and PHP. 2
  • GatorLink-authenticated pages

1 We no longer host new HTML pages. All new website requests will be created on WordPress.
2 PHP is limited to read-only functions. Contact CLAS IT for more details about server configuration.

Resources

Domain Names

All official university web sites should use domain names within the ufl.edu namespace. CLAS IT handles requests for new sub-domains of clas.ufl.edu and changes to many existing department domains.

In addition to department and CLAS domains, CLAS IT will also submit requests to register third-level ufl.edu domains on the behalf of faculty and departments. Third- and fourth-level ufl.edu domains must meet the requirements of the Domain Name policy.

Service Support

Send a service request to CLAS IT for questions about CLAS web accounts. Requests will be receive a response within 24 hours.There is no standard turnaround for requests since this depends on the type of request or project.

CLAS IT and CLAS Communications update and develop for the main college site.Requests for help designing sites or adding content to sites are handled by CLAS Media Services. Requests for web development and programming are handled by CLAS IT.

For questions related to a department site, contact the department webmaster.

Pricing

Service is provided by CLAS for department and user sites at no cost. Web and database hosting can also be purchased from UF’s CNS Open Systems Group for a monthly fee.

Requirements

Users must be CLAS faculty or staff with proper approval from office managers or department chairs. Requests for access must come from the department IT contact or office manager.

Backups and Recovery

Backups are made every 12 hours for the two main file servers, every two hours for the Web servers, all other servers backed up as required depending on their purpose. User Data is archived for 3 months after a file is deleted.

Recovery of a deleted file or folder is initiated by a customer by ticket, and recovery is done by CLAS IT personnel.
