Password changed? Update Your Devices

It is that time of year again when we all must update our passwords. This can be one of the biggest headaches because if you have any device still using the old password, you may get locked out of your account.

When you change your password away from campus make sure that you do not have anything logged in. Be sure to change the password on every device that has been connected to your GatorLink account or email. The most common things to update are Wi-Fi on your phone, iPad, laptops, MacBooks, and iMacs.

Updating Wi-Fi Passwords on Phones and Tablets

For phones and tablets, the easiest way to update the Wi-Fi password is to completely forget the network and reconnect. When you try to connect again, you will be asked for your username and password again. All you have to do is use your Gatorlink username and your current password.

Updating Passwords on Laptops

For Windows laptops that are UF property you will want to be on campus to update the passwords. The easiest way to do this is to connect it with a network cable to an Ethernet port in your office. This will allow you to log in with your new password and will remove the old password.

For those laptops that are not UF property and are connected over Wi-Fi you will have to change the network settings. If you have Outlook configured on the device, it will ask for your current username and password. When this happens, select cancel and restart the machine. The next time you open Outlook it should not ask for your password any longer and should begin to sync properly.

Updating Passwords for Mac Users

For Mac users, there are a few additional steps that need to be done. If you access the Keychain and look for anything pertaining to printers, the UF network, or ad.ufl.edu these will all need to be updated.

Depending on how your email is setup there are two different things to check.

  • If it is set up with iMail go to System Preferences and select Internet Accounts. Select the account that your UF email is setup with and choose details. It will open another window with your email address, password and description. This is where you will input your current password and click OK.
  • If you are using Outlook on Mac, open Outlook and at the top select Preferences under the Outlook tab. Once the window open select Accounts, and then click on your email account. On the right-hand side of the window it will show the account description, Full Name, email address, Method for logging in and the last option should be Password. Update this option and close the window. Quit Outlook and reopen. You should now have your email syncing without any problems.
