Windows 11

Windows 11 is Microsoft’s newest operating system. Officially released in October of 2021, Windows 11 is the modern OS in the Microsoft lineup, however Microsoft will continue to offer support and security updates for Windows 10 until October 2025.

In anticipation of the Windows 10 end-of-life, all new Windows computers that CLAS IT deploys will come with Windows 11 installed.

Sometime in late fall we will also begin offering Windows 11 upgrades on a volunteer basis to any to faculty and staff. We will announce this through the office managers mailing list.

Virtual Desktops

Virtual Desktops: The virtual desktop feature in Windows 11 has been improved, providing a more personalized and efficient experience. In addition to other some other useful changes, you can now change the wallpaper and name your custom desktops.

Snap Layouts: Snap layouts allow you to quickly organize your open applications on your desktop, so you can see and interact with them all at once.

Widgets Panel

Widgets Panel: This might be an acquired taste for some, but the Widgets panel allow for quick access to your favorite topics in one panel. The top section can be personalized with widgets for weather, Gator sports, photos of Century Tower, and other personalized topics. The lower half provides a customizable section for clickable news headlines from your sites of choice.
