Webex Information and Tips

Webex Information

Webex is an application that functions as a softphone, allowing users to make and receive calls via computers or mobile devices without a physical desk phone.  The application runs on  standard desktop/laptop computers (any OS), as well as smartphones (iOS, Android).

To use Webex, you must have the softphone service provisioned by UF.  For new softphone service requests, please submit a ticket.

NOTE: If you were using Jabber, then you already have a softphone provisioned and can move forward with installing Webex.

Things to Consider:

  • Many older speakers and headsets used AUX connectors.  If both headset and speaker are AUX, Windows will only recognize one device so it will not be possible to set Webex to ring from the speakers if the headset is plugged in.  If one or both are USB or bluetooth, you will be able to use both at the same time.
  • The default settings for Webex include a 12 second ring time, 1-2 rings, before it goes to voicemail.  A longer ring time can be requested.  Those set up by CLAS IT should have a 36 second ring time, 5-6 rings.
  • If your phone services stop working or show a status of ‘connecting’, please restart the client.  If restarting the client doesn’t resolve the issue, select the Sign Out option from the menu, and sign in again.
  • Emergency 911 calling location cannot be set automatically and will need to be set up manually.  More information about Emergency 911 calling can be found here: Webex E911
