After 12 years of support, Microsoft will end updates for Windows XP on Tuesday, April 8. The operating system will still run, but technical assistance and automatic updates will no longer be available.
Since this leaves the operating system more vulnerable to security risks and viruses, staff with machines running Windows XP should consult with their department IT support team to identify a solution.
Home Computers with Windows XP
Staff, faculty, and students who use a personal desktop or laptop with Windows XP should upgrade their operating system if their hardware supports it or they can purchase a device that will run the latest version of Windows. The UF Helpdesk offers software and laptop support.
Access to IT Resources
Windows XP can still access shared drives, this may change in future. Services that depend on minimum versions of software or hardware that cannot run on XP will not be available.
